Strong race to catch up in Ningbo

From 12 to 14 October the last two races of the Blancpain GT Series Asia were scheduled for Phoenix Racing Asia. With two Top 10 finishes the crews of the two Bentley Continental GT3 made an important step at the Ningbo International Speedpark.

Only for the second time the team fielded two Bentley cars in the GT series. After the teamĀ“s debut at the Shanghai International Circuit at the end of September, the goal was to finish inside the Top 10 in Ningbo. Said, done: In the big final, the duo Shaun Thong/Jordan Pepper showed a really fast race pace and fought their way up to fifth place. The crew of the #5 Alex Yoong/Andre Couto finished ninth.

In the first race of the weekend, the #3 car just missed out on their goal with a twelfth place. The sister car could not finish the race. But on Sunday Phoenix Racing Asia showed their fighting spirit and worked their way up. A furious race to catch up saw Thong and Pepper storm from last starting position into the leading group.

“The team did a great job”, said team boss Marchy Lee. “Shaun and Jordan had to start from last place due to technical problems in qualifying. But they didn’t let themselves be put off by that. This weekend was a big step for the team. Now we’re looking forward to 2019!”

Even though the season in the Blancpain GT Series is over, the Hong Kong-based team is still on the go. The final of the Super Taikyu awaits Phoenix Racing Asia at the Okayama International Circuit in Mimasaka from 2 to 4 November.
